During the implementation of my teaching sequence, I carried out an Action Research. My action research was based on visual aids based on children’s interests and the question I wanted to answer was: “Are visual aids based on children’s interests a key strategy to get them motivated?”
I used Shrek as children’s interest and different kind of visual aids like flashcards, images in the photocopies…
After observing, questionnaires and talking to them, I got to the following conclusion:
“General visual aids always support the content helping students to understand the lesson and also to follow it. However, they do not motivate by themselves. If they are based on children’s interests they automatically catch pupils’ attention by themselves. Nevertheless, they need to be accompanied by motivating content in order to keep the motivation.”
Consequently, I think that teachers should take this into account and be aware of the different cartoons, films, etc. that children like and different fashions because it is a good way to connect with them. If we combine those interests with work, I am sure that it can produce an important change in education. Actually, the more motivated a student is the better his or her learning is, and if there is something that you get by using this kind of visual aids is children’s motivation and attention.
